Allahabad University Receives Patent for Potato Flakes Energy Bar
The Union Commerce and Industry Ministry's Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks issued the patent. After receiving the patent, the Center for Food Technology is in discussions with a number of businesses to split the patent in order to produce the energy bar commercially.
For its "potato flakes energy bar," which can satisfy the urgent energy needs of runners, developing youngsters, and patients with acute energy deficiency, Allahabad University's Center of Food Technology has been granted a patent. The Union Commerce and Industry Ministry's Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks issued the patent.
According to Professor Neelam Yadav, director of the Center of Food Technology, the initiative to create potato flakes energy bars has been ongoing for a while. A patent application was made in April 2017 and has since been approved.
100 grammes of flakes energy bars include 365 calories, 11–12% protein, and 4-5% minerals per serving. This energy bar is made in a drum dryer and contains a variety of dry fruits.
According to Yadav, the primary component of this bar is potato flakes made from the Kufri Frysona potato type. This particular potato type is grown in the Saharanpur and Meerut regions and kept in the cold storage facilities there.
After receiving the patent, the Center for Food Technology is in discussions with a number of businesses to split the patent in order to produce the energy bar commercially, according to Yadav.
About 100 people were given this energy bar to eat during the trial, and Pinky Saini, who worked on this project, claimed that the response was quite positive. Neelam Yadav served as the project manager while Saini and Devinder Kaur worked on it.
Yadav stated that this initiative also included contributions from Vijay Kishore Gupta and Bandana from the Central Potato Research Institute in Meerut, Rajendra Kumar from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi, and Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya.
