Amul becomes the first Indian Dairy brand to make it to Rabobank’s Global Top 20 list

Amul, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has become the only Indian diary brand to make into the global top 20 list of Rabobank.

Amul, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has become the only Indian dairy brand to make into the global top 20 list of Rabobank. The list released by the Dutch multinational banking and financial services company has placed Amul, in the 16th position with an annual turnover of $5.5 billion (₹38,500 crores). 

Besides, the list also featured Switzerland’s Nestle at the top of the list with an annual turnover of $22.1 billion followed by France’s Lactalis with the US $ 21 billion turnovers. Moreover, Dairy Farmers of America jumped 3 positions in the list to secure the 3rd rank with an annual turnover of $20.1 billion.   

Expressing delight over this news, the official Twitter handle of Amul wrote, “GCMMF (Amul) enters the Rabobank’s Global Top 20 Dairy Companies list for the first time at No.16. This is a matter of pride for 36 lakh milk producers of Gujarat.” 

RS Sodhi, Managing Director, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (Amul) thanked the Gujarat government. “For all this tremendous growth credit also goes to Govt of Gujarat @CMOGuj @vijayrupanibjp for supporting 36 lacs farmers during difficult times by giving timely export incentives and Infrastructure funding @Amul_Coop,” Sodhi said in a tweet. He also said that this has been achieved due to the efforts of 3.6 million milk producers especially women. 

Amul, dairy cooperative, based at Anand, Gujarat which started in 1946, it is a cooperative brand managed by a cooperative body, the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF), which today is jointly owned by 36 lakh (3.6 million) milk producers in Gujarat. Amul has also played a major role in India's White Revolution, which made the country the world's largest producer of milk and milk products under the guidance of Verghese Kurien.
