“Ande Ka Funda” workshop held in SKUAST Kashmir

At SKUAST-K, a session on increasing poultry farming production was held. "Ande Ka Funda: Induction, Introduction, and Production of Eggs," a two-day course held at SKUAST Shuhama campus, ended on Friday.

The workshop aimed to better understand the difficulties and challenges of layer farming in Kashmir, as well as the steps that may be taken to address these concerns to ensure the long-term viability of the industry.

The workshop was held as part of the World Bank-ICAR-funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) for the institutional development of SKUAST-K by the university's Division of Livestock Production & Management and Faculty Outreach Centre of FVSc & AH Shuhama.

Purnima Mittal, Director Animal Husbandry Department Kashmir, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony on Thursday.

In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of such workshops for improving chicken production in the Valley and expressed the hope that such programs would be implemented at the department level as well.

Mittal emphasized the department's efforts to increase its visible influence in the poultry sector for the overall growth of farmers involved in the industry.

In his remarks, the guest of honor, Prof Haroon Rashid Naik, emphasized the importance of developing new ways of exploiting the tremendous potential in the poultry sector to bring positive developmental change to this region.

He praised the organizers’ efforts in putting on a workshop aimed at achieving a breakthrough in chicken production.

Prof. MT Banday, Dean FVSc & AH, who is also the workshop's Chairman, gave an overview of the region's current poultry situation and opportunities for improvement.

With existing technology available locally and throughout the world, Prof Banday believes the poultry market has a bright future.

Prof Azmat Alam Khan, OSD to the Vice-Chancellor and event organizer, gave a brief summary of the workshop.

Prof Khan informed the attendees and other dignitaries that the organizers will do everything possible to ensure the event's success.

Prof IU Sheikh, the Workshop's Organizing Secretary, formally welcomed the attendees and other dignitaries, while Dr. Henna Hamadani, Assistant Professor Division of LPM, hosted the event at the Faculty Outreach Centre, with Prof Abdul Hai offering the vote of thanks.
