Andhra Pradesh: Chandrababu Naidu Expresses Concern Over 'Increasing Farmers Suicides'

While the state set records in agriculture and aqua exports during the TDP regime, it had now become a "Suicide State" with 1,673 farmer deaths reported in the last three years; he tweeted on Saturday.

In a series of tweets, Naidu stated that without focusing on such serious public issues, the State government's talk of a united Andhra Pradesh is ridiculous. According to Naidu, the state that once made history in agriculture and aquaculture has recorded 1,673 farmer suicides in the last three years.

The State Government's anti-farmer policies are putting agriculturists in deep debt, he said, adding that a lack of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and withdrawal of subsidies are forcing them to commit suicide.

He claimed that the State Government has a vengeful attitude toward the common man and is harassing the people for no reason, which has resulted in many people taking their own lives.

The TDP chief went on to say that while such serious issues are haunting the people, causing disappointment and depression, the YSRCP government is irresponsibly making statements about united Andhra Pradesh, which is not in their hands.

He remarked that by declaring that both states should merge, he created confusion to divert people's attention and urged them to investigate the causes of farmer suicides and people's problems to address them immediately.

The YSRCP leaders, who did not open their mouths about the funds due to the state under the provisions of the State Reorganisation Act, are now making statements about united Andhra Pradesh to mislead the people about its failures, he said. In fact, the state suffered more losses as a result of YSRCP rule than the state's bifurcation, according to Naidu.
