Officials claimed that under the Union Government's 'Aroma Mission 2', 100 farmers from various villages in Chenab valley were taught basic technical know-how to produce aromatic plants on Sunday.

The day-long training and awareness workshop on 'cultivation, processing, value addition, and marketing of aromatic crops' was held by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM) Jammu, according to authorities.

According to them, 100 farmers from various villages in the Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts took part in the awareness programme.

Col Rajat Parmar, the Commanding Officer of the Bhaderwah-based 4-Rashtriya Rifles, who was the chief guest, praised the efforts from CSIR-IIIM and encouraged the unemployed youth of the region to take advantage of the Aroma Mission's opportunities.

He assured that the Army will provide all essential assistance to the farmers and unemployed youngsters of Bhadarwah.

Objectives of Aroma Mission

  • To encourage the growing of aromatic crops for the production of essential oils, which are in high demand in the aroma sector.

  • To assist Indian farmers and the aroma business in becoming worldwide leaders in the production and export of some other essential oils that are in demand.

  • To give significant benefits to farmers in terms of increased earnings, wasteland utilization, and crop protection from wild and grazing animals.

  • Apart from aligning with the government's policy of doubling agricultural incomes by 2022, the mission also employed women farmers, therefore promoting inclusive growth.
