Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) has provisionally notified Nano Urea as Nano Nitrogen Fertilizers in Fertilizer Control Order, 1985.

As per the 11,000 All India Farmers field trials on 94 crops conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-KVKs, the application of Nano Urea results in better crop productivity.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Bhagwanth Khuba, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, notified that two Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSUs) namely National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF) have also signed MoUs with IFFCO for transfer of technology for setting up nano urea plants at Nangal (Punjab) and Trombay (Maharashtra), respectively.

Until now, IFFCO Nano Urea is the only Nano fertilizer approved by the Government of India and included in the Fertilizer Control Order (FCO). It is developed and Patented by IFFCO.

Department has also issued guidelines for the development of entrepreneurs for drone spraying of liquid fertilizers. The use of Nano Urea is promoted through different activities such as awareness camps, webinars, nukad nataks, field demonstrations, Kisan sammelans and films in regional languages, etc.

About Nano Urea Fertilizer:

Application of 1 bottle of Nano Urea can effectively replace at least 1 bag of Urea. When sprayed on leaves, Nano Urea easily enters through stomata and other openings and is assimilated by the plant cells.

It is easily distributed through the phloem from source to sink inside the plant as per its need. Unutilized nitrogen is stored in the plant vacuole and is slowly released for proper growth and development of the plant. Small size (20-50 nm) of Nano Urea increases its availability to crop by more than 80%.
