Amid the nationwide lockdown, Central and State government are running different types of schemes for the welfare of farmers, daily wage earners and poor. Keeping in mind the current scenario, the state government of Haryana has recently launched ‘Bhavantar Bharpaii Yojana’ to give relief to the farmers. Under this scheme, if any farmer gets a lower price than the price produced in any market, the state government will provide compensation or minimum support price. This scheme will help farmers in reducing the risk by diversifying their crops as well as ensuring a minimum support price.
What is a compensation plan?
Due to the low price of production in the market for horticulture growers (farmers) under lockdown, the Haryana government has started the Bhavantar Bharti Yojana to compensate it. Farmers will be given the right price for four crops (tomato, onion, potato and cauliflower) through this scheme.
Salient Features of the Bhavantar Bharpaii Yojana:
-
Risk-free to vegetable tenants.
-
To ensure the income of Rs 48000 to Rs 56000 per acre on the above four crops under the scheme.
-
Determining the protected prices for tomatoes, onions, potatoes and cauliflower under the scheme.
-
The government compensates the difference in the price up to the protected price to the farmers registered through the BBY e-portal on the website (hsamb.gov.in) for selling vegetables at a lower price within the stipulated period in the market.
Who can Avail Bhavantar Bharpaii Yojana?
Landowners, lessees or tenant tenants are eligible to avail the benefit of this scheme.
Haryana Govt Ensures Support Price
The Haryana government promised that it would ensure farmers get at least Rs 4 a kilogram for tomato and Rs 5 a kg for onion during the Kharif season.
The state will support prices of tomato and onion under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana, a scheme announced by the Manohar Lal government to cover the price deficit of crops for farmers.
Volatile prices of tomato and onion, two essential ingredients in Indian cuisine, have been a major concern for farmers as well as consumers. Farmers often don’t get remunerative prices, even when prices rise at the retail level.
Under the scheme, the government will compensate farmers if the price drops below Rs 4 a kg for tomato and Rs 5 for onion. Two other horticulture crops, potato and cauliflower, will be covered during the rabi season.
Meanwhile, the state will begin a process, stretching a month from February 15, to authenticate the cultivated area under these crops.
Four Vegetables are also covered under the scheme
As per reports, four crops — potato, onion, tomato and cauliflower — are covered under the scheme, at present only the area of onion and tomato will be verified, said the official.
