It was in 2018 that Bihar opted out of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and launched its scheme called the Bihar Rajya Fasal Sahayata Yojna (BRFSY) for its farmers.

The move raised eyebrows as Bihar was ruled in a coalition government by NDA which was also in the Central government and the PMFBY was one of its much-publicized schemes.

What is Bihar Rajya Fasal Sahayata Yojna?

The scheme was said to be an assistance scheme rather than an insurance scheme as the funds were directly transferred to the farmers’ bank account.

Under the scheme farmers whose crops have suffered can apply to the government after which appropriate compensation is paid. The government claims that in the year 2019 they gave compensation to over 3.5 lakh farmers to the tune of Rs. 260.64 crore.

To register for the scheme one must register his/her request online at http://epacs.bih.nic.in/brfsy/.

Both the landholding farmers and the non-holding ones are eligible for the scheme.

The users must go on the site and register themselves on the site, download the form and fill it.

The form for landholding farmers should be attached with a Land Possession Certificate and a declaration certificate. In the form of information such as the number of crops you grow and the area of land that you grow it on.
