The Centre is ready to launch the 3rd phase of its flagship skilling scheme known as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in a month, with the aim to strengthen district skill committees, the Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mahendra Nath Pandey said.

Addressing a virtual conference, the Minister stressed upon the need to design courses and assume skilling aligned with local requirements.

He said keeping this in mind, we launched PMKVY 1 and 2, and after this we are going to launch PMKVY-III very soon i.e. within a month”.

Pandey stated that the third phase of the PMKVY-III would be to improve district skills committees in order to recognize and meet local skill needs.

It is important to mention that Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana is a government of India program for the identification and standardization of skills for the advancement of skills. The goal of the PMKVY scheme is to promote the capacity of future and current everyday staff to work and enhance their work performance through the distribution of cash prizes and awards and quality training.

The Centre introduced the PMKVY scheme in the year 2015 and restored it in 2016 to impart skills to one crore people by 2020. Later the revamped scheme, known as PMKVY 2.0, moved to a grant-based model where the training & assessment cost is directly repaid to training providers & assessment bodies in accordance with common rules.
