In response to the unprecedented environmental and social challenges facing the world, CGIAR, a global network of 15 agricultural research centers, is developing a significant report. The report aims to help decision-makers transform food, land, and water systems in the face of the climate crisis. Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the CGIAR Trust Fund, this initiative represents a major advancement towards sustainable food systems.

The primary focus of the report is on policymakers in low- and middle-income countries who face the interconnected challenges of food security, climate change, equity, and sustainable development. By enhancing these leaders' capacity to implement comprehensive strategies, the report aims to address these critical issues holistically.

This report will serve as a vital resource for decision-makers at various levels, from global to local. It will synthesize the latest research and evidence from CGIAR and its extensive network of partners, providing actionable insights and data to help shape policies that are both effective and scientifically grounded.

The initiative underscores the importance of investing in research and innovation for a sustainable future. This effort is envisioned not merely as a series of reports but as a comprehensive roadmap for creating resilient and sustainable food and environmental systems worldwide.

The flagship report will consolidate findings from CGIAR’s extensive network of researchers and over 3,000 partners globally, concentrating on five key impact areas: climate, environment, nutrition, gender, and livelihoods. These areas represent the core of CGIAR’s research efforts, ensuring that the outputs are relevant, well-evidenced, and actionable.

By presenting the best of CGIAR’s research in an accessible format, the initiative aims to significantly influence how countries address pressing issues of our time. The first report, scheduled for release within the next year, will lay the groundwork for future editions, which may focus on specific themes or global processes such as the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) or the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

Beyond the publication, the strategy emphasizes extensive collaboration with partners, along with robust advocacy and communication efforts. These components are crucial to targeting the right issues and maximizing the report’s impact on global food system reforms.

As the world approaches critical tipping points in environmental and agricultural sustainability, the need for informed and effective policies and investments has never been more urgent. CGIAR is poised to lead major evidence-based interventions that promise to reshape our collective future.

The upcoming flagship reports from CGIAR represent more than just documentation; they are a clarion call for global leaders to invest in and prioritize research and innovations that can sustainably transform food, land, and water systems. The support from BMZ and the collaborative efforts behind the report highlights the vital role of partnership in tackling these global challenges.

By leveraging CGIAR and its partners' scientific expertise, the flagship report will enable decision-makers around the world to translate evidence into action, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient future.
