Crop Insurance Schemes in India: How Farmers Can Claim Crop Loss?

Due to unseasonal storm and rain, crops including pulses, oilseeds, and vegetables have suffered a lot of damage. Farmers have to suffer a lot due to this unprecedented hailstorm and rainfall across Indian states. Moreover, the crop of pulses and oilseeds was damaged at a time when the farmer was about to harvest the crops, or at a time when the capital has been spent from sowing to harvesting. In many cases, the farmers even can’t extract the cost from the crops and output. Viewing this problem, the government is trying to make up for this loss of the farmer.

Moreover, the farmers who have insured their crop will soon be surveyed and will be given insurance for the loss.

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

As per reports, Uttar Pradesh government's Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi has instructed the insurance company to complete the survey work in 15 days and give the insurance amount of crop damage to the farmers.

The Agriculture Minister reviewed the payment of compensation to the farmers under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana) along with the officials of the Agriculture Department and representatives of insurance companies in their office room in Vidhan Bhavan.

Displeasure over the Insurance Companies

Expressing displeasure over the insurance companies, the Agriculture Minister said that the toll-free number of the company is not functional. With this, the minister said that in addition to registering the complaint on the toll-free number, the application should also be received offline. Along with this, a survey of those farmers who have not got crop insurance can be done to assess their crop loss.

Till Date Farmers will Get Compensation Payment

Moreover, he found that the payment of compensation for Kharif 2019 has not yet been ensured by National Insurance, The Oriental Insurance and Universal Sompo Insurance companies.

He instructed the insurance companies to ensure payment of compensation to farmers including interest till March 25, otherwise, they will be blacklisted by taking strict action against the companies.
