Cyclone Amphan: Mango Farms Destroyed in These States of India

On one hand, while the farmers across the nation are bearing heavy losses due to the lockdown, the situation of the farmers in West Bengal and Odisha has even worsened. With Cyclone Amphan hovering over these states, the farmers are bound to see terrible fate with their farms being destroyed.  

Farmers were already suffering from heavy losses, which will take many years to recover. Especially, farmers who are cultivating mango are suffering the most because of the cyclone. With the velocity of 130 kilometers per hour, the cyclonic winds that have devastated fields and barns. 

These are the Severely-Hit Areas 

As per sources, farmers in Sunderbans, Hingalganj and Hooghly in West Bengal have suffered heavy losses while farms in Bhadrak and its adjoining areas in Odisha have been completely destroyed. Murshidabad and Malda in Bengal have also been affected by the cyclone. There are chances of mangoes getting expensive as the most of the mango farms have been destroyed in the area.  

Mango is considered as an important crop in the state of West Bengal. Apart from West Bengal, states like Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, and Gujarat also cultivate mangoes in a huge quantity. In such a scenario, farmers are now turning to the government and are requesting the centre for help. With the help of social media, many farmers have expressed their concern before the government. Seeking help from the government, farmers said that the losses due to the Cyclone Amphan are being compensated, but no help has been provided to the farmers so far.
