Dr. Y.S.R. Horticulture University Unveils Rose Garden Having More Than 200 Different Varieties!

Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, an agricultural scientist, and Ramon Magsaysay awardee virtually inaugurated Dr. B. P. Pal Rose Garden at the Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, formerly Andhra Pradesh Horticultural University, on Sunday.

The statue of Dr. Pal was unveiled by university vice-chancellor T. Janakiram. Registrar K. Gopal, who attended the inauguration, said that 200 varieties of roses are being raised in the garden. Among the attendees of the inauguration were Director (extension) B. Srinivasulu, Director (research) R.V.S.K. Reddy, Dean (horticulture) A.S. Padmavathamma and other staff members.

About the University: Dr. Y.S.R. Horticulture University is a UGC-approved state university located at Venkataramannagudem, near Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was established on 26th June 2007 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and focuses on research and education of horticultural science. 

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. courses in the field of agriculture at several institutes that are affiliated with it. The Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University currently has 7 colleges and 12 departments under it. 

Presently, the university provides 4 courses, B Sc (Honors) in Horticulture, M Sc in Plant Pathology, Fruit Science, Horticulture- Floriculture and Land Scaping, Ph.D. in Fruit Science, Horticulture- Vegetable Science, Spices and Plantation Crops, and Diploma in Horticulture. The university also provides scholarships to deserving students, particularly those who are from reserved categories or low-economic backgrounds.
