Gaya Man Digs 3 km Canal in 30 Years to Irrigate Parched Fields

A man from Gaya has dug a canal to carry water from the hills for irrigation purposes. Laungi Bhuiyan alone has carved 3 km long canal to take rainwater coming downside from the nearby hills to the fields of his village, Kothiwala in Lathua area of Gaya in Bihar.

Laungi Bhuiyan said, “For the last 30 years, I go to the nearby jungle for grazing of cattle and dig the canal to bring the water in the pond. Nobody joined me in this venture. Villagers are going to cities to earn a livelihood but I decided to stay back.”

The major occupation of people in Gaya is farming and Animal Husbandry. Kothiwala village lies about 80 km away from Gaya district, marked as a refuge for Maoists.

Residents of Kothiwala village have also acknowledged Laungi Bhuiyan’s hard work of years, which will benefit huge amount of people and animals. 

Patti Manjhi, local from Kothiwala said, “Bhuiyan has been carving out the canal for last 30 years and that too single-handedly. This will benefit large number of people to irrigate their fields and animals too.

He also added that, “A lot of people will benefit here, People are getting to know him now because of his hard work.”
