Here comes the good news amid lockdown! Now, the Azadpur Sabzi Mandi will remain open for 24 hours till covid-19 lockdown. Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said, “The mandi will remain open from April 21, 2020 for 24 hours till the lockdown is lifted. This is to ensure uninterrupted supply of essentials in the national capital.”

Gopal Rai while speaking to news agency ANI, said, "We have set a new arrangement for Azadpur Mandi. The Mandi will remain open for 24 hours from 6 am - 10 pm. The vegetables & fruits will be sold like earlier. The truck movement will be allowed in and out of the market from 10 pm - 6 am. In every four hours, the entry of 1,000 people will be allowed."

He further added that this decision was taken keeping in mind the plight of small farmers & helping them sell their produce without any hassle. The move will also help to minimise the prices of vegetables which have witnessed a hike due to lockdown.

Social distancing norms by Government:

Rai also spoke about the social distancing norms that the government has asked people of the nation to practice. He said that the government will deploy 900 civil defence volunteers, 600 cleanliness workers & install 2 more CCTV cameras at crucial points in the market and deploy government official to monitor all arrangements for ensuring that the norms are followed.

He said, "We are providing every facility at the Azad mandi but social distancing shall be maintained. If not then the licence of the shop owners will be cancelled. The loudspeakers will be set up in the market to make timely announcements & spread awareness regarding COVID-19 lockdown.
