To ensure wider coverage of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan), Ministry of Agriculture has now involved the Common Service Centre (CSC) to speed-up the enrolment process.
As per latest reports, the Agriculture Ministry has tied up with Common Service Centre, which is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) under the Ministry of IT & Electronics, to complete the target of enrolling 14 crore small and marginal farmers across India.
PM-Kisan yojana is a minimum income support scheme funded by the Central Government and launched in December 2018. As per the scheme, an income support of Rs 6,000/year will be given to all farmers across the country in 3 equal installments of Rs 2,000 each.
The Ministry of Agriculture has roped in the CSC to expedite the coverage of PM-Kisan scheme. More than three lakh CSCs all over the country will now start enrolling farmers who are eligible for the scheme. Farmers can visit the nearby Common Service Centre to get enrolled & avail the benefit of scheme.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO), CSC Dinesh Tyagi said, "CSCs have also been given the permission to make any changes in previous enrolments. A farmer who is already a beneficiary wants to make any changes in his or her enrollment form like address or nominee, can visit the CSCs to get them done".
He further told that CSC has already been doing the enrolment work of PM Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana, a pension scheme for farmers.
With the mandate for PM-Kisan yojana, CSCs will emerge as a big social support centre for small & marginal farmers across the country.
Tyagi also said that "All village level entrepreneurs who operate our CSCs have been asked to speed up enrollments under both the schemes so that maximum farmers & their families can be benefited from them".
Agriculture Ministry sources said that since its launch, only 7 crore farmers have been enrolled in the PM-Kisan yojana against a target of 14 crore farmers.
During a high-level meeting, it was decided to involve the CSCs to expedite the enrolment process. So far, local patwaris, revenue officers & nodal officers nominated by state governments were in charge for the enrolment of farmers. Likewise, the online self-registration method for farmers also failed to pick up.
