G V L Narasimha Rao, a Rajya Sabha member from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been appointed as a Director in Tobacco Board. "You have been elected to the Tobacco Board as a result of a motion passed in the House in December 2021," the Rajya Sabha Secretariat informed the MP.

According to the Tobacco Board Act of 1975, the Board is represented by a Rajya Sabha member. The Board, which reports to the Union Ministry of Commerce, regulates the country's tobacco crop

Aside from deciding how much crop farmers can grow in a year, the Guntur (Andhra Pradesh)-based Board oversees the auctioning process, in which registered tobacco traders and firms participate.

In response to his election, Narasimha Rao praised Rajya Sabha's Chairman and members. He stated that he will continue to address concerns affecting tobacco farmers and will work even more to improve their conditions and promote tobacco exports.

Rao was previously elected to the Spices Board by the Rajya Sabha and has contributed to the expansion of the spices industry. He's also the Chairman of the Chilli Taskforce Committee.
