ICAR-CRIJAF Developed “CRIJAF Advice” Android App for Growers of Jute & Allied Fibres

ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore has developed an android app - “CRIJAF advice”. The application is fully dynamic and agro-advisories on jute and allied fibre corps issued by ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore are being updated every fortnight in the app. The app is user-friendly and freely available in the Google play store where farmers and other users can view and download the advisories. 

This App is Available in Three Languages

This is one of the first programs developed for the farmers, which is available in three languages viz., English, Hindi, and Bengali in a single platform, so that jute and allied fiber growers of India as well as Bangladesh can get real-time agro-advisory twice in every month.

App Provides Information of Everything Related To Jute & Allied Fibres

Dr. N.M. Alam, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CRIJAF and his team has developed the software under the dynamic leadership and guidance of Dr. Gournga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF. The information provided through this app comprehensively covers the improved technologies related to seed, variety, inter-cultural operation, mechanization, integrated nutrient management, integrated pest management, post-harvest technologies of the jute and allied fibre crops. 

Besides regular advisories, specific advisories are also issued through this app in case of natural disasters like cyclones, floods, drought as well as measures to be adopted by the farmers for mitigation of such calamities to reduce crop loss.

About ICAR-CRIJAF

The Central Jute Commission founded the Jute Agricultural Research Laboratory (JARL) in Dhaka in 1938. Following the country's division, the Jute Agricultural Research Laboratory was relocated to Chinsura, West Bengal, and then to Nilganj, Barrackpore, where it is now known as the Jute Agricultural Research Institute (JARI).

In 1966, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) took over JARI. The Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres was renamed Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres (CRIJAF) in January 1990.
