ICAR-CRIJAF Organized Campaign for School Children on “Agriculture and Environment”

As part of National Level Campaign on “Agriculture and Environment: The Citizen Face” in Commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore sensitized the school children about the role of Agriculture in tandem with Environment for securing food security, sustenance of natural resource and preserving the environment for future generation.

As part of National Level Campaign on “Agriculture and Environment: The Citizen Face” in Commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore sensitized the school children about the role of Agriculture in tandem with Environment for securing food security, sustenance of natural resource and preserving the environment for future generation.

Altogether 24 students along with three teachers from different schools of North 24-Parganas district participated in the event organized on 26th November’ 21. After a brief introduction about the programme, a quiz competition on “Indian Agriculture and India’s Freedom Struggle” was conducted among the students. In addition to this, an orientation lecture on “Opportunities and Agriculture Sector for Entrepreneurship and Employment” was delivered for the benefit of the students.

The participants were also explained about the role of ICAR Institutes in the country and career opportunities in agricultural sciences. The students also visited the museum and exhibition hall to get acquainted with the historical perspectives and technologies developed by the institute, the fibres of the mandate crops and the products made from jute and other natural fibres. 

The participants were further exposed to the research and extension activities of ICAR-CRIJAF for increasing their awareness level on research and the outreach activities for the benefit of the farmers.

Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF addressed the students and talked about the importance of such campaigns for the benefit of the Indian citizen and explained about the negative impacts of plastic use and how these natural fibers can replace plastics for clean and green environment.

He emphasized that the students can play a vital role in spreading the message of conservation of natural resources like water, soil which is very important for sustainable food production in future. Dr. Kar advised the students, they may choose agricultural science in their career and serve the farming community of the country.

The winner of quiz competition, as well as other participants were awarded by the Director. The programme was coordinated by Dr. S. K. Jha, I/c Agricultural Extension.
