ICAR-CRIJAF Receives Prestigious Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi & Rajarshi Tandon Rajbhasha Awards

ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres (ICAR-CRIJAF), Barrackpore has bagged the prestigious Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Hindi Patrika Puruskar and Rajarshi Tandon Rajbhasha Puruskar instituted by Indian Council for Agricultural Research, New Delhi for its outstanding contribution in use of Hindi language in official work and other official publications.

The institute earned Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Hindi Patrika Puruskar (2020-21) for the publication of Hindi magazine “Resha Kiran”.  The contents of this magazine in Hindi covers comprehensively the technologies, issues, and future perspectives to strengthen jute and allied fibre cultivation and jute sector in a holistic manner.

The institute is also awarded with Rajarshi Tandon Rajbhasha Puruskar (2020-21) for its continuous effort to maximize the use of Hindi (Rajbhasha) in day-to-day official work.

Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF received these awards from Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar during the 94th Foundation Day Ceremony of the Indian Council for Agricultural Research organized in New Delhi on 16.07.22.

Puroshattam Rupala, Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and other dignitaries and senior officials of the ministry, NITI Ayog and Indian Council for Agricultural Research were present during this special occasion.

Dr. Kar congratulated the staff of the institute for these awards and also reiterated that we must work harder in every field to earn recognition and achieve more awards for ICAR-CRIJAF in the future.

About ICAR- CRIJAF:

The Central Jute Commission established the Jute Agricultural Research Laboratory (JARL) in Dhaka in 1938. Following the country's partition, the Jute Agricultural Research Laboratory relocated to Chinsura in West Bengal, and then to its current location of Nilganj in Barrackpore in 1953 as the Jute Agricultural Research Institute (JARI). In 1966, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) took over JARI. In January 1990, the institute was renamed the Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres (CRIJAF).

The goal of the ICAR-CRIJAF is to explore traditional and new frontier science areas for technology development, promotion, and policy direction for a thriving, productive, and resilient jute and allied fibre agriculture.
