ICAR Institutes Celebrated World Soil Day Highlighting the Importance of Soil Health Card
To promote the soil’s importance as one of the major and critical components of the natural system and its pivotal role in maintaining and assuring the well-being of the human lives on the earth, the various Institutes of ICAR pan-India celebrated the World Soil Day with full zeal and fervor. Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi - The week-long celebrations of World Soil Day jointly organized by the Division of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry and Delhi Chapter of the Indian Society of Soil Science included a Farmers’ Field Day at the village Nangla Tasi (District Meerut, Uttar Pradesh), visit of school students to the ICAR-IARI’s labs, etc.

Dr. A.K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR & Director, ICAR-IARI underlined the significance of soil health restoration for the society’s well-being. He also urged to maintain the soil health in all possible ways.
More than 200 farmers participated in the field day organized on 3rd December, 2019.
AICRP (STCR), ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal- The ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Soil Test Crop Response (STCR), ICAR-IISS, Bhopal organized several programmes to mark the occasion. Issues such as soil water conservation measures, importance of soil health card for plant nutrient management vis-à-vis improving crop productivity and maintaining soil health were discussed during the programmes for imbibing the scientific knowledge among the farmers.
M. Harekrishna Singh (I.A.S.), Commissioner, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur marked his presence as the Chief Guest during the World Soil Day celebrations at the STCR Centre at ICAR-Research Centre for North-Eastern Hills Region, Manipur. The event was jointly organized in collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal (West). A total of 120 farmers were distributed 80 Soil Health Cards during the occasion.
In Telangana, the STCR Centre at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Hyderabad celebrated the occasion at Seriguda Bhadraipalli Village, Kothur Mandal, Rangareddy District.
A. Prabhakar, Gram Sarpanch and Shri E. Balaraj, Deputy Gram Sarpanch also attended the programme.
A total of 94 farmers attended the programme and 89 Soil Health Cards were distributed during the occasion.
In West Bengal, a total of 25 farmers (14 Scheduled Caste and 11 Scheduled Tribe) participated during the occasion at the STCR Centre at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Kalyani. Around 25 Soil Health Cards were distributed to the farmers.
In Andhra Pradesh, the STCR Sub-Centre at Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University organized celebrated the occasion at Agricultural Research Station, Utukur, Kadapa District.
A total of 20 Soil Health Cards were distributed to around 25 farmers during the occasion.
