ICAR Scientists Awarded for Excellence in Dissemination of Agricultural Practices and Technologies in Leh

Agriculture Today has awarded a group of scientists from the Indian Council for Agricultural Research for Excellence in Dissemination of agricultural practices and technologies from Lab to Farm. Their work has been recognised for improving the lives & subsistence production systems in remote regions like Leh.

Agriculture Today, a National Agriculture Magazine has awarded a group of scientists from the Indian Council for Agricultural Research for Excellence in Dissemination of agricultural practices and technologies from Lab to Farm. Their work has been recognised for improving the lives & subsistence production systems in remote regions like Leh.

The ICAR scientist team led by Dr. A. Arunachalam, Coordinator of task force on Himalayan Agriculture under National Mission on Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) & Dr. M. Raghubanshi, Co-Investigator, Leh component worked hard to introduce best agronomic practices & weed management demonstrations on growers’ fields with new crops & varietal assessment.

The ICAR team consisting of Dr Anurag Saxena, Associate Scientist along with technical support members - Dr Enoch Spalbar, Ms Stanzin Landol and Mr Jigmat Stanzin conducted 38 trainings with one kisan mela & workshop for dissemination of available scientific information to the farmers to enable sustainable as well as climate-resilient agriculture in the Leh region with support from the NMSHE Programme of the Department of Science & Technology.

The Task Force on Himalayan Agriculture under the National Mission on Sustaining Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE), as part of Climate Change program of Department of Science and Technology, worked on 6 components including database development, monitoring, vulnerability assessment, adaptive research, pilot studies & organized capacity building programmes.

Principal Scientist, Dr. M. Raghuvanshi, who at present is posted in the ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey & Land Use Planning, received the prize during the Award Ceremony for Agriculture Extension 2021 conducted virtually by the Agriculture Today Group.
