The Income Tax Department earlier this week surveyed Onion traders in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra following reports of alleged hoarding of the key kitchen commodity amid its skyrocketing rates, according to officials. The IT department has raided offices of at least four big onion traders from Lasalgaon, the largest market for wholesale trade of onions in the country. The highest rate of the bulb touched Rs 57/kg on Monday.
