Indian PSU Signed a Fertilizer Supply Agreement with a Russian Business for FY22

Fertilizer Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated in his written reply to the Upper House that attempts are being made to develop a structure to assure a regular and enough supply of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and its raw materials to India at competitive costs from countries such as Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and others.

"A letter of intent has been signed between four Indian public sector enterprises and the Russian business Phos Agro for the delivery of five types of fertilizers, including DAP, in 2021/2022," he stated.

To boost domestic fertilizer output, the minister stated that the government has recently granted permission to Madhya Bharat Agro Product Ltd Unit-II to produce 1.20 lakh tonnes of fertilizer per year. 

He stated that two rounds of discussions with stakeholders have taken place on the exploration of minerals for raw materials for DAP and other fertilizers in India.

The minister further stated that the availability of soil nutrients such as DAP and urea has remained stable during the current rabi season of the 2021-22 crop year (July-June).

He ruled out any fertilizer scarcity in the country while emphasizing efforts made to maintain enough and timely supply of DAP in the country.

In his written responses to the Rajya Sabha, the minister stated that the Centre maintains 24x7 engagements with state governments, fertilizer businesses, and railroads via a control room and digital platforms to guarantee fertilizers reach various states.

In addition, the stakeholders such as manufacturers, ports, and railways have been requested to operate at full capacity to produce, load, and transport fertilizers to their destinations. 

Furthermore, the loading and voyage duration of imported DAP cargoes is monitored daily, and appropriate interventions are made as needed, he noted.

He claimed that because 90 percent of fertilizers are transported via railway rakes, the loading and transportation of these rakes are being carried out in a highly targeted manner in conjunction with individual states to meet the field demand.
