‘Jagriti Beej Sevika’, Tribal Women Employed in Establishment of Seed Industry
The Regional Research Station (RRS) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Malda of the ICAR-Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture has started a programme on quality seed production by involving the tribal women as Jagriti Beej Sevikas. Under this programme, the Institute has selected 55 tribal women (one from each village) from 55 adopted tribal villages. These Jagriti Beej Sevikas are now being empowered with the training on participatory seed production through various programmes.

Under this programme, the Institute has selected 55 tribal women (one from each village) from 55 adopted tribal villages. These Jagriti Beej Sevikas are now being empowered with the training on participatory seed production through various programmes.
The Sevikas are working as model seed producer and their expertise and services are being available for the quality seed production of the other interested seed producers of the village. Apart from training on seed production to Jagriti Beej Sevikas, the Institute is also helping in the supply of maternal seeds, processing of harvested seeds, branding and marketing as Jagriti seeds.
