Jal Shakti Abhiyan Launched to Create Awareness among Farmers, Stakeholders on Water Conservation

The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ranga Reddy District together organized a Mega “Kisan Mela” under the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” Programme of Government of India at Kondurg, Ranga Reddy District, Telangana.

The Chief Guest, Shri Y. Anjaiah Yadav, MLA, Shadnagar Constituency urged the farmers for adopting the various water conservation technologies available. He also opined the department officials for taking up the demonstrations of water saving technologies in the farmers’ fields.

Dr. G. Ravindra Chary, Director, ICAR-CRIDA highlighted about the water conservation, “More Crop per Drop” and various other programmes of Central and State Government Programmes on water conservation.

Dr. Y.G. Prasad, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone - X briefed about the importance of the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan - Water Conservation Campaign. The campaign is being taken up all over the country.

The Farmers’-Scientists’-Department Officials’-Public Representatives-Interaction Meeting on water conservation was also held during the occasion.

The main objective of the event was to create the awareness among the farmers and other stakeholders on water conservation in the blocks of Kothur, Shamshabad, Talkondapally of water-stressed Ranga Reddy District.

About 180 students of Zilla Parishad High School carried out a rally on “Jal Shakti Abhiyan - Water Conservation” Awareness with play cards in Kondurg Mandal on the occasion. A total of 430 farmers, 120 DRDA-SERP Women Group Members and 180 school students participated in the event.
