Kings Maritech Eco Park to Use Cutting-Edge Tech to Promote Sustainable Aquaculture
The park would highlight the role of aquaculture and mariculture production systems in increasing food production, doubling farmer income, improving coastal livelihoods, combating global warming and climate change, and earning valuable foreign exchange.
The Kings Maritech Eco Park, promoted by Kings Infra Venture Ltd, will have a detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the Industrial Technology Consultancy Organisation Tamil Nadu (ITCOT). The DPR, which will cover the project's financial, ecological, technological, and social impacts, is expected to be finished in eight weeks.
Shaji Baby John, Chairman and Managing Director of the Kings Infra Venture, said the Maritech Eco Park project aims to harness the latest advances in technology for developing eco-friendly and sustainable aquaculture with a significant increase in farmer income after appointing ITCOT to prepare the DPR.
"The Kings Maritech Eco Park is envisioned as a system that would provide aqua farmers with plug-and-play facilities in terms of technology, government schemes, marketing, procurement, and other services," said Shaji Baby John. Shaji Baby John elaborated on the need for sector synergy, saying that numerous schemes run by the federal and state governments to provide financial and technical assistance to aquaculture and fisheries needed to be integrated.
"A professional solution provider capable of establishing the necessary synergy would be of enormous assistance to farmers in maximizing the benefits of these schemes," he added. According to Shaji Baby John, the Maritech Eco Park project will play a key role in achieving the country's national goal of Rs 100,000 crore in export revenue from the fisheries sector. Aquaculture shrimp accounts for nearly 70% of the Rs 43,720 crore worth of fisheries products exported from India.
Apart from the social impact assessment, the DPR would concentrate on the Maritech Eco Park's financial matrix, environmental impacts, and technological innovations. The project is part of Kings Infra Ventures Ltd.'s efforts to build world-class infrastructure and support services with a special focus on aquaculture and allied businesses.
Kings Maritech Eco Park Ltd. (KMEPL), an SPV formed by Kings Infra Ventures Ltd., would offer a plug-and-play service for multi-species indoor precision aquaculture utilizing sustainable technologies. The KMEPL would make all government subsidies and technological assistance available to farmers who set up shop in the park. A Centre of Excellence, as envisioned by the park, would also promote a green environment, ecological balance, and environmentally friendly concepts.
The park would highlight the role of aquaculture and mariculture production systems in increasing food production, doubling farmer income, improving coastal livelihoods, combating global warming and climate change, and earning valuable foreign exchange.
