KVKs conducted 5358 Women Specific Trainings with Participation of over 1 lakh Women Farmers: Tomar

Centre has set up 722 Krishi Vigyan Kendras in India with mandate of technology assessment and demonstration for its application & capacity development. KVKs give training to farmers including women farmers on various aspects of agriculture and allied sectors.

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar said that to address the problems and issues of women in agriculture, Government has established ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, at Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The institute undertakes research on women in Agriculture, identifies gender issues in agriculture and suggests interventions to address the same.

As many as 704 capacity-building programmes were conducted by ICAR-CIWA and All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Home Science covering 31,626 farm women during 2015-2020.

Centre has set up 722 Krishi Vigyan Kendras in India with mandate of technology assessment and demonstration for its application & capacity development. KVKs give training to farmers including women farmers on various aspects of agriculture and allied sectors. They also organize women farmer specific training programmes on various topics such as Household food security by kitchen gardening and nutrition gardening; Design & development of low/minimum cost diet; Designing & development for high nutrient efficiency diet; Minimization of nutrient loss in processing; Processing and cooking; Storage loss minimization techniques etc.

5358 women specific trainings were conducted by KVKs with the participation of over 1 lakh women farmers. 5.50 lakh women farmers took part in other 57757 training programmes together with male farmers.

Around 58,295 Krishi Sakhi for Agriculture were trained by 735 State Level Resource Persons, under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Ministry of Rural Development.
