Latest News: Amid Nationwide Lockdown Government Waives Farm Loans up to Rs. 2, 00,000

Farmers are the soul of our nation. But in the present lockdown situation, the Annadatta’s are facing many difficulties. They are not able to harvest their crops, as there are no farm labourers available due to lockdown in the country. Not only this, heavy rainfall and thunderstorm last month had destroyed several crops in North India. Central government as well as state government has been trying to bring different schemes and initiatives to help the farmers come out of this situation.

Farmers are the soul of our nation.  But in the present lockdown situation, the Annadatta’s are facing many difficulties.  They are not able to harvest their crops, as there are no farm labourers available due to lockdown in the country. Not only this, heavy rainfall and thunderstorm last month had destroyed several crops in North India. Central government as well as state government has been trying to bring different schemes and initiatives to help the farmers come out of this situation.

With the aim to provide some relief to the farmers in the country, the state government of Maharashtra has taken a good step. This time, the Maharashtra government is helping the farmers by waiving off their loans. It is important to mention that, amidst the fight against deadly COVID-19 or Coronavirus that has killed so many people all over the world, the Maharashtra government has decided to give big relief to the farmers. As per reports, The Uddhav Thackeray government has transferred round Rs. 12,000 crore in to the bank accounts of farmers under the Kisan Karz Mafi Yojana.

Soon after forming the government in Maharashtra, Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray had announced the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Shetkari Karj Mukti Yojana. Under this scheme, loans of up to Rs. 2 lakh are being waived for the farmers of the state. About 32 lakh farmers are involved in this loan waiver scheme and, the state government has disbursed Rs 11,966.22 crore in the bank accounts of as many as 18,89,528 farmers in Maharashtra.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, said that 10,40,935 farmers got Rs 5407.13 crore from district cooperative banks and 8,48,593 others received Rs 6559 crore 80 thousand via commercial banks.

The Shiv Sena-led coalition government in Maharashtra last year had announced the farm loan waiver for the annadatta’s having the loan outstanding of Rupees Two lakh till 30 September 2019.
