Makhana Cultivation: Government is Providing Subsidy of Rs 72,750; Apply Here
In India, makhana cultivation is primarily practiced in Bihar, West Bengal, Manipur, Tripura, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
The government is working hard to increase the income of the farmers. For this, it has launched many schemes and initiatives to reduce the cost of cultivation and increase productivity.
Recently the Mithila Makhana of Bihar received GI tag hence now the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture, Bihar is encouraging more and more farmers to cultivate foxnut. For this, the Bihar government is providing incentives to the farmers to increase the production of Makhana in the state. A subsidy of Rs 72,750 will be given to those who cultivate makhana.
The benefit of the subsidy scheme will be given to the farmers of 11 districts of the state i.e. Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa, West Champaran, Darbhanga and Sitamarhi.
A special Grant will be given for production of a new variety of Makhana
Makhana Vikas Yojana has been implemented in Bihar with the objective to increase the productivity of Makhana through high-quality seeds.
According to the state government, the cost of cultivation of a high variety of Makhana in the state is Rs. 97,000 per hectare. On this, 75 percent subsidy is being given to the growers. Farmers of the above-mentioned 8 districts of the state can apply for the improved seeds of Makhana.
Presently, the production of Makhana is 16 quintals per hectare, but with the new varieties, its production has increased to 28 quintals / hectare. Due to high-yielding varieties like Swarna Vaidehi & Sabour Makhana-Van in Bihar, its productivity has increased from 16 tonnes per hectare to 28 tonnes per hectare.
How to apply for Makhana subsidy
Farmers can apply online on the Bihar Horticulture Department online portal. The registration process started on 5 September and the last date to apply is 20 September 2022.
Apart from this, farmers can also apply for this by visiting the nearest CSC.

Farmers will need some documents which are as follows-

Mobile number of the applicant farmer etc.
