MP Government to Give Rs. 20,500 Cr Power Subsidy to Farmers & Domestic Consumers

The Madhya Pradesh cabinet approved a subsidy of over Rs.15,700 crore in power bills for farmers along with the continuation of a subsidy of Rs. 4,980 crore for residential electricity consumers for the current fiscal year. 

It also approved a scheme to transport foodgrains from PDS (ration) shops to the doorsteps of tribal families in 16 districts.

After the virtual meeting, which was headed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Home Minister and government spokesperson Narottam Mishra stated the cabinet resolved to grant farmers and residential users approximately Rs.20,500 crore in electricity bill subsidies.

The continuation of the subsidy for domestic users, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and those in the Below Poverty Line category, under the Grah Jyoti Yojana, will cost the exchequer Rs.4,981.69 crore, according to an official release.

Agriculture pumps (up to 10 horsepower capacity) and other farm sector clients will receive a rebate of Rs 15,722.87 crore in their bills. It is estimated that roughly 21.75 lakh farmers will get benefit from it.

According to the announcement, SC and ST farmers with up to one hectare of land will receive free power. The Mukhyamantri Ration Aaapke Dwar Yojana, which will help tribals in 7,511 villages across 74 blocks in 16 districts, was also authorized by the state government.

Tribal families will receive rations delivered to their homes from Public Distribution System (PDS) shops under the scheme. Mishra underlined that this scheme will not be implemented in regions where by-polls will be held later this month.

This isn't a brand-new statement. This statement was made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on September 18 and was confirmed by the cabinet today. He stated that this should not be tied to the bypolls. Madhya Pradesh will hold byelections for three Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat on October 30.
