National Webinar held on ‘Evolving livelihoods for Women in post-harvest Fisheries: Approaches, Policies & Institutional support’

The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar had organized a National Webinar on the theme “Evolving livelihoods for Women in post-harvest Fisheries: Approaches, Policies and Institutional support” earlier this week.

The webinar aimed at imparting the participants about the status as well as scope for Women in fisheries, stressing the importance of building self-reliance among women in fisheries via entrepreneurial ventures and creating awareness on the policies, programmes & recommendations for promoting entrepreneurship.

Dr. R.C. Agrawal, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), ICAR in his inaugural address complimented the Institute’s efforts in conducting such an important Webinar. He also stressed on the importance of comprehensiveness of technology in terms of its widespread adoption & up-scaling. He highlighted the Centre’s New Educational Policy that promotes entrepreneurship.

Dr. P.S. Pandey, ADG (EP&HS), ICAR emphasized on the importance of fisheries in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. He outlined the plethora of government programmes as well as initiatives for empowering women in fisheries sector.

Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director of ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar talked about the importance of women in fisheries & the need of mainstreaming them through various policies & programmes.

Dr. C.N. Ravishankar, Director of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi in his keynote address on “Impact of COVID 19 on the Economies & Livelihoods Dependent on Fisheries” apprised the participants about the impacts of Coronavirus on the lives of fishers aespecially, the fisherwomen. He highlighted the technologies of ICAR-CIFT. He also underlined the ways the technologies must be utilized for developing women entrepreneurship.
