Need to Carry Out Awareness Activities to Resolve Conflict Between Man & Wild Animals in Agriculture
All India Network Project on Vertebrate Pest Management organized its “3rd Group Meeting” at Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) in Hyderabad last month. The Chief Guest, R. Sobha, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head, Forest Force, Telangana stated that due to the faster urbanization and other infrastructural developments across the country, the degradation of the wild animals has led to the increasing problems of wild animals in agriculture. She urged to manage the animals in crop fields without harming them. She also opined for carrying out the awareness activities to resolve the conflict between man and wild animals in the agriculture.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. Rajan, ADG (Plant Protection & Biosafety), ICAR, New Delhi appreciated the development of several eco-friendly technologies against rodents, birds and higher vertebrates. He urged for striving hard to meet the expectations of ICAR, policy planners and the farmers in the important area of plant protection.
Earlier, the Guest of Honor, Dr. R. Jagadeeshwar, Director of Research, PJTSAU, Hyderabad delivered the welcome address.
Dr. Praveen Rao Velchala, Vice-Chancellor, PJTSAU, Hyderabad emphasized on the degradation of the forest eco-system. Dr. Rao mentioned that the use of botanicals and integration of digital technologies could be interesting areas for evolving management technologies for the wild vertebrates.
Dr. R.S. Tripathi, Network Coordinator presented the Progress Report of the Project. He stated about the filing of patents, development of new formulations on rodenticides, repellents against rodents and higher animals, initiation of meta-genomic studies, technologies of bird, rodent and higher vertebrate technologies, commercialization of bio-acoustics, etc., that are a few major land mark achievements during the period.
The occasion marked the releasing of more than 30 Publications including technical bulletins, extension brochures, pamphlets and posters, etc., by the dignitaries.
Around 50 delegates from various parts of the country attended the meeting.
