On February 9, an international online symposium on spices and aromatic crops 'Spices as flavours, fragrance and functional foods' will begin at the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode.

During the four-day event organized by the Indian Society of Spices, along with the Indian Society of Seed Spices and Spices Commission, experts from over 20 countries will take part.

The interactive symposium will address the new trends in the field of spices and aromatic plants around the globe, according to IISR officials. They say that scientists from different parts of the world will present their specific ideas, research operations and cultivation practices in the field.

The planned workshops would cover in depth issues such as global spice development and trade scenarios; spice chemistry and functional foods; spice manufacturing and added value; cutting-edge plant and environmental technologies; and food safety. The event is available to academics, development officers and sector officials.

The international symposium will be held with the technical assistance of scientists from the Indian Agricultural Science Council, the National Seed Spice Research Centre and the Arecanut and Spice Development's Directorate. Excellence awards created by the Indian Spice Society to honor the contribution of individuals to the spice field will also be distributed.
