Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainable Development of Indian Fisheries

The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology Research Centre, Visakhapatnam organized the “Haritha Matsyaki - 2019”, a National Seminar in Hindi Opportunities and Challenges for sustainable development of Indian Fisheries” at ICAR-CIFT, Research Centre, Pandurangapuram, Visakhapatnam.   The Chief Guest, Dr. Pravin Putra, Assistant Director General (Marine Fisheries), ICAR, New Delhi emphasized on the importance of fisheries in the National economy that has led to setting-up of the new Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. He stated about the “One Nation One Language” policy for the encouragement of the language Hindi.

The Guest of Honor, Shri V. Padmanabham, President, Seafood Exporters Association of India urged for the organization of events like Haritha Matsyaki - 2019 that are a perfect platform for the frequent exchange of views between the researchers and stakeholders. This would help in solving the various challenges being faced by the fishery sector more promptly and effectively. He also released the ICAR-CIFT publication.

Earlier, Dr. C.N. Ravishankar, Director, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi regarded Andhra Pradesh as the perfect place for organizing the Seminars on Aquaculture or Fisheries owing to its vast contribution to the fishery sector. He highlighted about the organization of Hindi Seminar - “Haritha Matsyaki - 2019” by the ICAR-CIFT at Kochi, Kerala, Mumbai (Maharashtra) and Veraval (Gujarat) for the promotion of technology awareness in Hindi language.

The Book of Abstracts of the Seminar (Hindi) and a Technology Booklet (Hindi) highlighting the technologies developed at Visakhapatnam Research Centre of ICAR-CIFT were released on the occasion.

The various Senior Officials of ICAR Institutes of Fisheries Department participated in the event.

Three Prizes, each for Best Oral Presentations and Best Poster Presentations were distributed during the closing ceremony.
