Oranges from Lower Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh Reach UAE
Oranges from Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district have made their way to a UAE hypermarket chain for the first time, according to a statement.
State government officials, including agriculture production commissioner and secretary Bidol Tayeng and Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB) CEO Okit Palling, were on hand to witness the launch of organic oranges from Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley district for sale at Lulu Group hypermarkets.
According to the official statement, Lulu Hypermarket regional director KP Thamban and purchase manager at Lulu Group International Santosh attended the event in Dubai on Thursday.
Lulu Group regional director KP Thamban praised APAMB's efforts and stated that various other organic products from the state may be available in UAE stores in the near future.
Speaking at the event, Tayeng praised the APAMB and Lulu for their collaborative efforts in successfully organizing the programme.
Palling also stated that Arunachal Pradesh's agriculture and horticulture products, such as pumpkin, pineapple, ginger, turmeric, and large cardamom, are of "excellent quality," but exporting them has been difficult due to logistical constraints. He thanked Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Agriculture Minister Tage Taki for facilitating the orange export.
Orange Farming in Dambuk
The "orange bowl" of the state is located in Dambuk, tucked away in this valley. With 12,000 hectares of land dedicated to orange cultivation, the Dambuk subdivision alone produces between 50 and 60 metric tonnes of oranges annually because of the suitable sub-Himalayan climate.
The Orange Festival of Adventure and Music, a premier annual event, is another reason for the town's fame. Adventure activities are enjoyed by visitors from all over the nation, who also help to advertise the locally grown Khasi-mandarin oranges.
