PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Praveen Rao Conferred with Swaminathan Award

Vice-Chancellor of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, popularly known as PJTSAU, Dr V Praveen Rao will be conferred with the prestigious Dr MS Swaminathan Award.

Vice-Chancellor of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, popularly known as PJTSAU, Dr V Praveen Rao will be conferred with the prestigious Dr MS Swaminathan Award.

The biennial award, which has been instituted by the Retired ICAR Employees Association & Nuziveedu Seeds Limited recognizes & rewards the work of agri scientists and professionals who have made great contribution towards the growth of agricultural sector in India.

The award selection committee, headed by former Director General of ICAR Dr RS Paroda and other representatives had selected Dr Rao out of 13 potential applicants from agriculture, horticulture & veterinary sciences fields.

The committee said that Dr Rao is being conferred with this award for his contributions in agricultural research, teaching, extension & administration. Dr Rao, the first V-C of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, in office since 2016, has to his credit, great contributions in the areas of micro-irrigation as well as water management.

Progressive academic reforms & visionary research prioritization has made PJTSAU stand in the top position, among the agriculture universities and 6th among the State agriculture universities in India.

Dr Rao, who started his career with the Andhra Pradesh Agriculture University in 1985, has more than 35 years of experience as a teacher & researcher. He has handled thirteen research and six consultancy projects of micro-irrigation in India, Israel & South Africa.

Dr Rao was a technical consultant along with being instrumental in the formulation & commissioning of world's biggest micro-irrigation project covering an area of 0.9 million hectares - a project that is considered as a milestone in Indian agriculture.

As an international micro-irrigation advisor, Dr Rao also contributed to the digital knowledge material on drip irrigated agricultural & horticultural crops.
