While addressing an election campaign in West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that as soon as BJP wins elections in the state, money would be given to the farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. He said that farmers would be given all the previous installments along with Rs. 6000.

It is important to mention that about 70 lakh farmers of West Bengal will get benefit of PM Kisan Yojana. Shah said that soon after the formation of BJP government, we will give Rs 6000 of the current financial year along with Rs 12,000 of previous years. That is, farmers in total will get Rs 18,000.

Farmers in West Bengal were deprived of the benefits of the scheme as Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee had not implemented PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana till now. But recently she had agreed to implement the scheme.

As Legislative Assembly elections will soon be held in West Bengal, political parties are trying to impress the farmers by announcing different schemes. Until now, lakhs of farmers in West Bengal have lost crores of rupees, which the Centre provides under this scheme. The Ministry of Agriculture has estimated the loss at Rs 9,660 crore. Sources informed that many farmers had applied for the scheme online but they could not get registered as the work of verification was with the state government.

How PM Kisan money is transferred to farmers account

In order to avail benefits of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, farmers have to apply online. Then the state government verifies their revenue record, Aadhaar number and bank account number. Until the state government verifies the account, the money is not transferred to the farmers. As soon as verification is done, a FTO is generated. After this, the central government transfers the money to the beneficiaries’ account.

What is PM Kisan Yojana?

Under Central government’s Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, farmers of the country are given Rs 6,000 per year as financial support. This amount is given in three installments of Rs 2,000 and is directly transferred to the bank account of the farmers. The aim of Modi government is to double the income of farmers by 2022.
