PM Kisan: Over 9000 Dead Farmers Received Benefits under the Scheme

Government said that action will be taken against people who are wrongly taking the benefit of PM Kisan scheme.

As per latest report, more than 9,000 dead farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district were given financial assistance under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

The lapse was noticed when the UP government asked the agriculture department for re-verification of the beneficiaries. The e-KYC i.e. electronic know your customer showed that PM Kisan money was transferred into accounts of at least 9,284 deceased farmers.

It is important to mention that under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, financial assistance of Rs 6,000 per year is given to farmers with cultivable lands. The amount is transferred in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each.  

Officials are compiling details of dead farmers

Harnath Singh, Firozabad district agriculture officer said that around 2,60,000 farmers registered under the PM Kisan yojana were credited with Rs 2,000 in their bank accounts.

Later, during the e-KYC process, it was revealed that 9,284 dead farmers also received the benefits.

Singh said that the number can further increase as the e-KYC process of around 96,000 farmers, registered under the scheme is not yet completed. He added that the matter is being investigated and revenue department teams are compiling details of dead farmers. As soon as they are identified, their names will be removed from the list and money will be recovered from the families.

It is important to mention that two years back, 15,000 ghost beneficiaries of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana were identified in Firozabad district. Since then, many cases involving ineligible & dead persons being benefited under the central government scheme surfaced all over UP.

Farmers who are waiting for the 12th installment will soon get Rs. 2000. Sources revealed that the next installment will released in August.
