Sowing of Kharif Crops has started with the arrival of the monsoon in the country. The government has issued a notification for Crop Insurance. The Agriculture Department has said that farmers should insure their crops for protection from natural disasters. The process of getting insurance for Kharif crops 2020 has started in most of the states.

Farmers who have taken crop loans through Kisan Credit Card (KCC), their crop automatically comes under the purview of insurance. Other farmers can insure the crop as per their choice. Crop insurance or fasal bima can also be done at the Common Services Centers.

It is important to mention that crop insurance is voluntary and it is completely farmers decision to insure his crop or not. To protect crops from natural havoc, the Central Government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The scheme was launched on 13 January 2016.

Those farmers who want to insure their crop can register themselves on the official website of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana - https://pmfby.gov.in/. Farmers can also take advantage of this scheme by going to their nearest bank.
