Spices Board to Provide Farmers with Market Access via Flipkart

Spices Board, a Ministry of Commerce and Industry establishment, has signed a Terms of Understanding (ToU) with e-commerce platform Flipkart to improve market access and promote farmers and grassroots organizations working in the spices sector through its initiative Flavourit Spices Trading Limited (FSTL).

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, the ToU was signed under the Flipkart Samarth Program, which aims to empower MSMEs, artisans, entrepreneurs, and rural seller and farmer communities selling products associated with rich cultural heritage through Flipkart's e-commerce platform.

Sathiyan, Secretary, Spices Board India, commented on the collaboration, saying, "Through Flavourit, we are looking forward to assisting farmer communities in marketing their products to a wider spectrum, both domestically and internationally."

Flipkart Group's chief corporate affairs officer, Rajneesh Kumar, stated that the company's partnership with the Spices Board would provide farmers and grassroots organizations working in the spice sector with pan-India market access.

About Spices Board:

The Spices Board was established on February 26, 1987, with the merger of the former Cardamom Board (1968) and Spices Export Promotion Council (No. 10 of 1986). (1960). The Spices Board is one of five commodity boards under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

It is a self-governing organization tasked with promoting the export of the 52 designated spices as well as cardamom growth (Small & Large).

The Board's primary responsibilities include small and large cardamom cultivation, as well as the promotion, development, regulation, and quality control of spices for export. The Spices Board, in collaboration with the Indian Cardamom Research Institute, conducts cardamom research.
