From tapioca to bananas, pineapples and garlic, the floor price of 16 items have been announced. Farmers say the floor prices for pineapple and tapioca are lower. The production cost of pineapple is Rs 15.79 while the support price is Rs 15.
According to the Department of Agriculture, the prices were adjusted in view of the difficulty of storage and processing. But this will not benefit the farmers. The support price for tapioca is Rs 12 and is inadequate. It is also possible to change the price as it is not finally approved. The support price will be announced each year. In markets selected by the Department of Agriculture, the difference in price will be credited to the farmers if the procurement price of the crop falls below the floor price.
