Swedish Firm SPOWDI Launches Smart Farming in India
Swedish Company, SPOWDI (Solar Powered Water distribution) and EMMVEE, a leading solar energy manufacturer inaugurated ‘SPOWDI Smart Farming’, a modern and sustainable solution to bring forth the futuristic & best in class smart farm, supporting small farmers community and preserving water. Rajendra Kumar Kataria, IAS, Secretary to Government, Agriculture, Horticulture & Sericulture Department inaugurated the farm on 9 December 2019 in Bangalore.

During the event, SPOWDI smart farming and Jain Irrigation signed a Memorandum of Understanding for an innovative & sustainable solution to save water. This is in line with the Make in India policy and move to strengthen relations between India and Sweden in the renewable energy sector.
CEO for SPOWDI Mr. Henrik Johansson said, “India is a growing country and has a huge contribution to the renewable energy sector with as much as 107.22 Billion units in 2019. This initiative has enabled us to fix a benchmark for sustainable measures & contribute for a future-proofed green planet. As we sign this MoU, we want to encourage farmers to take up this technique, especially in India where 500 million people depend on agriculture for their livelihood.”
Adding to this, Sr. Vice-President, Jain irrigation Anil Kumar Kataria said, “We at Jain irrigation support SPOWDI Smart Farming since it is in line with our mission “To Leave the Planet better than we found it”. JISL also ensures “More Crop per Drop’ & creates shared values, nurtures the environment & contributes considerably to the water & food security of the World.”
It must be noted that the SPOWDI smart farm was launched in collaboration with SHL Medical, Jain Irrigation, Emmvee Solar systems & Team Sweden to show how innovative & sustainable solutions can be helpful for small farmers community and at the same time save water.
The SPOWDI Smart Farms are open for all, especially people who want to see how future food production can be secured in a sustainable way. They are located in Bangalore India, Malaga Spain, Uppsala Sweden & soon also in California, New York and Florida USA.
