Tanager Celebrates ‘Mahila Kisan Diwas’ to Honor Women Farmers

Tanager, a non-profit organization on 15th October 2019 celebrated “Mahila Kisan Diwas” to recognize the contribution of women farmers in agriculture as part of their project “Shubh Mint” funded by Mars Wrigley Confectionery at Nepalganj, Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.

Tanager, a non-profit organization on 15th October 2019 celebrated “Mahila Kisan Diwas” to recognize the contribution of women farmers in agriculture as part of their project “Shubh Mint” funded by Mars Wrigley Confectionery at Nepalganj, Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. 

The event started with the performance of women farmers from different Self-Help Groups (SHG) under the Shubh Mint program. The women from the SHG groups presented a group song and performed a role play that showcased day to day work of women farmers and the difficulties faced during work at the field. 

Amit Kumar Singh, Country Representative of Tanager India said “In India women play a dynamic role in agriculture, however their contribution is hardly recognized. At Tanager we thrive towards recognizing the efforts of these women farmers and focus on gender equality. Moreover, we feel that women can drive productivity and innovation in agriculture and practice climate resilient solutions with is the need of the hour. This celebration is to respect their efforts.” 

During the event, many fun games were also organized for the women farmers. A ‘puppet show’ creating awareness about importance of women farmers in agriculture and how climate resilient agriculture has become the need of the hour was also organized. 

The event witnessed the presence of around 200 farmers from Zaidpur region. A photo exhibition on the activities done by Tanager under Shubh Mint program with the Mint farmers in the region was arranged as part of the event.
