Vet Varsity Expands Dialysis Unit for Treatment of Animals
The dialysis unit of GADVASU is fully equipped with the latest dialysis machines, Doppler blood pressure monitor, infusion pump, multi-parameter monitors and centralized oxygen supply.
The Dialysis unit at multi-specialty veterinary hospital, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana is further expanded with a new dialysis machine. Dr. Tarun Shridhar, IAS (Retd.), Former Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Govt. of India inaugurated the upgraded unit on April 20th, 2022.
He congratulated the entire team for setting up new standards in Veterinary Medicine. Flanked by Dr. SPS Ghuman, Dean, College of Veterinary Science, he applauded the role of GADVASU in shaping and transforming the Veterinary profession in India by adopting and delivering ‘high tech’ Veterinary Therapeutics.
Dr. Swaran Singh Randhawa, Director of clinics, informed that within a span of one year the dialysis unit of GADVASU has emerged as the lifesaving veterinary speciality unit of north India and as such it was the dire need of the hour to upgrade and strengthen existing dialysis facilities.
Dr. Randhir Singh told that the Dialysis unit of GADVASU is equipped with all the state-of-the-art facilities which are at par with any human dialysis unit in the country. He further told that there is an exponential increase in the cases of renal failure over the last 4-5 years.
On average, 4-5 dogs are daily presented in medicine OPD which are diagnosed with renal failure and based on our selection criteria 2-3 such dogs are suitable candidates for undergoing dialysis.
The dialysis unit of GADVASU is fully equipped with the latest dialysis machines, Doppler blood pressure monitor, infusion pump, multi-parameter monitors, and centralized oxygen supply.
This unit is also backed by expert radiology, ultrasound, echocardiography and transfusion facilities. With the up-gradation of the Dialysis Unit, we hope that we would be able to provide this life-saving modality to more pets with kidney-related problems, Dr. Randhir added.

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) was established in Ludhiana by an act of the Punjab Legislature No. 16 of 2005 notified in the Punjab Government Gazette on August 9, 2005, and it started functioning w.e.f. April 21, 2006, for promoting livestock production, health and prevention of the disease(s) through integrated teaching, research, and extension programme(s).
