Webinar held on ‘Vegetables for Nutrition Security & Enhancing Farmers’ Income’
KVK Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab under the aegis of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana had organized a National Webinar on “Vegetables for Nutrition Security and Enhancing Farmers’ Income” on 20th June.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab under the aegis of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana had organized a National Webinar on “Vegetables for Nutrition Security and Enhancing Farmers’ Income” on 20th June.
The theme of the webinar was “Enhancing the income of farmers through quality seed production, processing & post-harvest management scope and development of nutri-gardens for nutrition security”. Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute in Ludhiana, Dr. Rajbir Singh, highlighted the role of vegetable crops in doubling farmer’s income by using advanced technologies. Dr. Singh asked the KVKs for developing two Nutri-Smart Villages in each District for nutrition security at the household level.
Director of ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi (UP), Dr. T.K. Behera outlined the ways for increasing the productivity of vegetable crops under the changing climatic scenario at the field level and it’s processing for increasing the profitability. Director of Punjab Horticultural Post-harvest Technology Centre, Ludhiana, Dr. B.V.C. Mahajan stressed on giving more importance to post-harvest technologies & processing in managing the situation like glut of these crops.
As many as 150 stakeholders including progressive vegetable growers took part in the event. The Webinar was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mohotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
