With Growing Demand, India is ready to export Pomegranate to Australia

For improving relations and promoting trade between two countries, India is all set to export pomegranate to Australia. The move comes after several negotiations, months of discussion, and completion of necessary protocols and finally both the countries are ready for export and import. 

Australia is ready to welcome Indian pomegranates following an import-risk assessment involving significant collaboration and some discussions between authorities of both the countries.  

Why this Growing Demand in Australia? 

The reason for this growing demand of pomegranate is its use in cooking shows and restaurants. And Australia’s High Commissioner, Barry O’Farrell said that this demand can be partly met by India’s exports. He further added, “While Australia already produces pomegranates, India is well placed as one of the world’s largest pomegranate producers to meet shortfalls in the Australian market.” 

How this trade deal will be Beneficial? 

Australia’s High Commissioner further mentioned that this two-way agricultural trade can be beneficial for both India and the consumers, they can enjoy Australian walnuts, almonds, and beer. And apart from this, Of course, Australian consumers can enjoy pomegranate, and at the same time, Indian mangoes and table grapes also. And along with all this, it will provide a livelihood to the Australians and will benefit the economies of both the countries. However, India is not too eager for Australian dairy products as farmers also need a livelihood. 

Barry O’Farrell said, “there are bio-security conditions which must be met by Australian importers, and I encourage Indian exporters to work with their customers and Indian authorities to ensure Australia’s importing country requirements are met.”
