Advanced Agricultural Techniques, Special Schemes For Farmers In Telangana

Telangana government is giving utmost importance to the agriculture sector, setting an example for other States in India. No doubt for this, the government has taken various steps to make the farming sector lucrative. In order to increase production and per capita income it has introduced advanced agricultural techniques for the farmers. It must be noted that Telangana is the first Indian state to allocate 26 percent of the budget for Agriculture and related sectors.

Apart from Rs 16,124-crore loan waiver promised by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in its election manifesto, government has also introduced around 40 special schemes for the agriculture sector. Some of them are as follows:

Rythu Bandhu – is a unique investment support plan initiated by the State government to stop farmers from going to private moneylenders. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had declared Rs 4,000 per acre per crop and government had allocated Rs 12,000 crore for same. Around 52.64 lakh farmers were given investment support cheques.

Rythu Bhima- under this scheme government will be providing Rs 5 lakh insurance cover to all farmers in the State. Just within 15 days of its launch, families of around 400 deceased farmers received Rs 5 lakh LIC.

24-hr power supply – Till now, Telangana is the only state in the country that is providing 24-hour free power supply to agriculture pump sets. This has led to improvement in productivity of the sector.

FCCs – the ‘farmer coordination committees’ has been made with an objective to unite farmers and make their living better. As per records, approximately 1, 61,000 farmers have joined the committees at various levels. Farm mechanization scheme was also introduced to reduce input expenditure.

New godowns - around 310 new godowns were made with a storage capacity of 22.47 lakh tonnes for the farmers. Earlier, there were just 176 godowns with a capacity of 4.17 lakh tonnes.
