India’s Top 10 Agriculture Export Commodities 2020-21

India’s Agriculture exports grew at 17.5 percent to cross $41.8 billion in 2020-21 even after the total merchandise exports dropped 7.2 % to $ 290.8 billion, from $313.4 billion in 2019-20.

India’s Agriculture exports grew at 17.5 percent to cross $41.8 billion in 2020-21 even after the total merchandise exports dropped 7.2 % to $ 290.8 billion, from $313.4 billion in 2019-20. 

India has been performing very well on the Agri-exports front. The institutions such as Agriculture and processed food products export Development Authority (APEDA), The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Commodity boards such as Coffee Board, Ruber Board, Spices Board etc., are authorized to promote the export of various agriculture related commodities.  In this article, we have discussed the top 10 Agri-export commodities of India. 

Non-Basmati Rice:  Any rice other than Basmati Rice is known as Non-Basmati Rice. There are over 1000 varieties of rice in the world out of which most are found in India. The quantity of non-Basmati rice exported from India in 2020-21 was 130 lakh MT. Its export generated a revenue of Rs 35 thousand crores. 

Basmati Rice: Nearly two- third of Basmati rice Produced in India is exported. Leading fine quality rice in the world fetches good price in International Market. The various varieties of Basmati rice that are exported are Karnal local, Basmati 370, Basmati 385, etc. 46 lakh MT of basmati Rice was exported last year & Rs 29 thousand crores revenue was generated from the export of this commodity. 

Buffalo meat: A total of 10 lakh MT of buffalo meat was exported from India which gave returns of Rs 23 thousand crores in the year 2020-21. 

Misc processed Items: These include Dried soups, soft drink concentrates, Ice cream, Sauces, Pan Masala, Mineral water, Custard Powder etc. It provided a return of Rs 6389 crores. 

Fresh Fruits: the total revenue from fresh fruit’s export last year was Rs 5641 croes. The fruits with great export potential are: 

  • Mangoes Varieties- Langra, Chausa, Fazli, Krishna Bhog, Neelam

  • Grapes Varieties- Anab-e-shahi, Cheema sahebikishmishchorni 

  • Apple Varieties- ChaubattiaAnupam, Lal Ambri, Golden Delicious 

  • Banana Fresh Varieties- Dwarf Cavendish, Robusta, Rasthali

  • Guava Varieties- L-49, Allahabad SafedaBanarasiChittidar

Groundnut: 6 lakh MT of groundnut was exported in the last fiscal. The value of which is Rs 5381 crores. The varieties of groundnut with great export potential include Kadiri-2, Kadiri-3, BG-1, BG-2, Kuber, T-28, T-64, Chandra, Chitra, etc. 

Fresh Vegetables: India exports the largest number of vegetables. A total of 23 lakh MT of vegetables were exported in 2020-21 which accounts for almost Rs 5371 crores.  Vegetables with the Export potential include: 

  • Onion

  • Potato Varieties - Kufri Chandramukhi, Kufri Badshah, Kufri Bahar

  • Tomato Varieties - Vaishali, Rupali, Rashmi, Rajni, Pusa Ruby

  • Cauliflower Varieties Include- Pusa Deepali, Early Kunwari, Punjab Giant-26

  • Cabbage Varieties -Golden Acre, Pusa Mukta, Pusa Drumhead

  • Peas Varieties- Asauji, Lucknow Boniya, Alaska

  • Okra Varieties- Pusa makhmali, Punjab Padmini, Pusa sawani, Parbhani Kranti

  • Walnut

Processed Fruits and Vegetables: India is one of the largest producers of dried and preserved vegetables like Preserved Onions, cucumber and preserved mushrooms. Processed fruits and Vegetables with export potentials include Apple Juice, Fried Chips, Jam and Jellies, pineapple Juice, Olives etc. Processed fruits and Vegetables account for Rs 5149 crores for a Quantity of 5 lakh MT. 

Other cereals: India grows the largest number of cereals and huge demand for cereals in the global market creates an excellent environment for the export of Indian cereals. The most important cereals are Wheat, Paddy, Sorghum, Millet, Barley etc. The export of Cereals generated a revenue of Rs 5116 crores. 

Cereal preparations: The cereal products with great export potential include: 

Wheat / Meslin flour, Rye Flour, Maize Flour, Meal of wheat etc. A total of 4 lakh MT of cereal preparations were exported in 2020-21 and Rs 2382 crores return was recorded.
