Indian Agriculture Gifted With Best Human Talent : Expert

Speaking at the 43rd Foundation Day ceremony of National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Director General of International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Dr Peter Carberry said “Indian agricultural human resources are second to none in the world and also in agricultural research and reaching out to farmers”.

Speaking at the 43rd Foundation Day ceremony of National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Director General of International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Dr Peter Carberry said “Indian agricultural human resources are second to none in the world and also in agricultural research and reaching out to farmers”.

Dr Peter said Indian agriculture is being gifted with the best human talent. The country not only leads in various agricultural innovations and entrepreneurship but also in startups for the farmers. He said that research on agriculture should mainly focus on market-led and demand-driven products and services for better growth in the sector.

Dr Peter emphasized the need for a strong cooperation between ICAR institutions and ICRISAT to improve the living of small farmers in India as well as in sub-Sahara African region. Moreover he advocated that agriculture alumnus must aim at a career in agricultural research through inventive ideas creating a high impact amongst agriculture stakeholders.
